West Indies beat Pakistan by two wickets in a close and exciting second T20 match on Saturday. The win ties the three-match series at 1-1.
Jason Holder was the hero for West Indies. He took four wickets and hit the winning boundary on the last ball of the match. His bowling contributed to Pakistan's total of 133 runs for 9 wickets.
They were 7 for 3 early on, so losing wickets at that rate early on is detrimental. Hasan Nawaz scored 40 and captain Salman Agha scored 38 to get to a reasonable score.
In chasing a score of 134 runs, the West Indies had trouble scoring. Pakistan bowled really well, especially their spinners. Mohammad Nawaz took 3 wickets for 14 runs. The West Indies kept losing wickets and the match was getting away from them.
Gudakesh Motie scored 28 runs, and Romario Shepherd made 15 to help West Indies stay in the game. West Indies needed to win by eight runs in the final over. They needed three runs from the final ball after a few singles and a wide ball.
After after, Holder smashed a four to give the West Indies the victory. After seven games, it was their first T20 victory.
"These past few weeks have been difficult," Captain Shai Hope remarked. This victory means a lot to us because we've been working hard.”
Holder added, “We know we can play better. This win gives us hope.”
The final T20 match will be played on Sunday, followed by a one-day series.
