Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) pulled off a dramatic comeback by winning 4-3 on penalties after the match ended in a 2-2 draw in regular time. PSG won the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday at Stadio Friuli in Italy - this was their fifth title of 2025.
Tottenham scored first through Micky van de Ven in the 39th minute and Cristian Romero in the 48th minute. PSG’s new goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier was a starter for PSG in this match, taking over for Gianluigi Donnarumma who confirmed his departure from the club earlier in the week.
PSG fought back late in the match, with Lee Kang-in scoring in the 85th minute and Goncalo Ramos equalizing in stoppage time with a header from Ousmane Dembele’s cross, sending the game into a penalty shootout.
In the shootout, PSG made four consecutive successful kicks after an early miss from Vitinha.
Mathys Tel and Micky van de Ven of Tottenham missed their penalties, but Nuno Mendes scored the game-winning one.
Luis Enrique, the coach of PSG had high praise for the team’s mental strength in a short time to prepare. Captain Thiago Silva, emphasised discipline with PSG leading 2-0, although they can tend to get complacent and lose focus.
The win adds to PSG’s impressive list of trophies this year, which already includes the French Super Cup, Ligue 1, French Cup, and UEFA Champions League.
At the FIFA Intercontinental Cup in December, the team will now have the chance to accomplish a record sextuple.
