Korea is investigating potential involvement in the preliminary investigation of the murder of Marine conscript Cpl. in 2023.Chae Su-geun led a special counsel team that raided former President Yoon Suk Yeol's home on Friday. The raid was part of a larger operation that included more than ten locations, including the home of former National Intelligence Service chief Cho Tae-yong. According to Yoon's lawyer, Choi Ji-woo, authorities seized a mobile phone during the three-hour search of his residence in southern Seoul. Yoon's wife, Kim Keon Hee, was home alone during the search.

Yoon, currently jailed in a separate case involving an alleged martial law plan, is a suspect in this case on charges of abuse of power. The inquiry involves accusations that Yoon tampered with a military report that blamed the senior commander for Chae’s death. The BBC : Yoon has been accused of instructing officials to call off a press briefing and to block the case from being sent to the police, as well as directing that a probe’s findings be changed.

Special prosecutors want to look into what happened during a crucial presidential office meeting that day where Yoon was said to have lost his temper and ordered such an inspection. Homes of former intelligence chief Cho, People Power Party lawmaker Lim Jong-deuk and other figures in the investigation were also searched.

Kim Tae-hyo, a former principal deputy national security adviser who was present at the disputed meeting, was also called in for interrogation on Friday.  Kim had previously denied any outburst and claimed that Yoon was not informed about Chae's passing during the meeting.  The goal of the prosecution is to confirm Kim's statements and any potential involvement in influencing the investigation's conclusion.

This latest round of raids follows searches at the defense ministry and the presidential National Security Office on Thursday.
