Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has advised people to get married and start a family at the suitable age, emphasizing that humanity's future may be in jeopardy if population growth and development are not balanced.

Speaking at the launch of the National Population Policy 2025, organized by the Ministry of Health and Population on World Population Day, Oli emphasized that development and population must grow together. He said everyone has a duty to contribute to reproduction as a responsibility toward the planet.

“Nations and the Earth gain meaning through people. Without population, countries wouldn’t exist. We need proper policies to protect human life,” Oli said. “The human species is the most valuable creation in the universe. Those causing harm for selfish reasons must stop. While we hold discussions on population, we continue producing deadly weapons. If this goes on, humanity’s survival is in danger. We must prevent demographic imbalance.”

He noted that the legal age for marriage is 20 and encouraged people to marry on time and aim to have three children by age 30. He cautioned against being misled by cultural messages that promote delaying family life.

Oli expressed concern over falling birth rates and said that past awareness campaigns discouraging large families have led some people to remain childless. He added that even wealthy nations are now worried about shrinking populations. He called on all sectors to actively implement the new population policy.
