Nepal is currently building roads at an average pace of 2.55 kilometers per day, according to the annual report for the fiscal year 2081/82 released by the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport on Friday.

The report states that a total of 932 kilometers of roads were blacktopped during this period, surpassing the initial target. Minister for Physical Infrastructure Devendra Dahal noted that this represents the highest rate of physical progress—76.41%—seen in the past six years.

Of the total work completed, projects worth Rs 8.66 billion were actually finished in the previous fiscal year, but payments were processed this year. The government has also managed to avoid any major unpaid dues in the current fiscal period, he added.

Looking at specific road projects:

Mid-Hill Highway: Out of the 75 km target, only 58.5 km were blacktopped.

Postal Highway: Exceeded its target by blacktopping 92.5 km out of the planned 75 km.

Karnali Corridor: Successfully met its goal by completing 20 km of gravel roads.

Kaligandaki Corridor: Outperformed the 50 km target, completing 71 km of blacktopping.

Narayanghat-Butwal (East-West Highway): Of the 113 km blacktopped, 60 km were four-lane and 33.5 km were two-lane sections.

Minister Dahal said that, apart from the Daunne section, most areas have shown satisfactory progress.
