FIFA has announced the ticketing plan for the 2026 World Cup, to implement dynamic pricing for the first time in a World Cup. Tickets will go on sale on September 10, 2025. No one will be able to buy them until that date, however the first phase of ticket sales will be only for Visa card holders. Dynamic pricing means that, although there is a base price set for tickets, ticket prices will go up much higher if there is intense interest in that ticket or to create scarcity based on availability. Dynamic pricing is standard practice in both the US and Canada for concerts and professional sports teams and events.  Tickets for group-stage matches will start at $60, while premium seats for the final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey can reach $6,730.

The first sales phase will run until September 19, after which selected applicants will be notified on September 29 and given a time window starting October 1 to purchase their tickets. Up to 40 tickets may be purchased by spectators for the duration of the event, with a maximum of four tickets each match. FIFA has also planned additional phases, including an early ticket draw from October 27-31 and a random selection draw after the final tournament draw on December 5, allowing fans to purchase tickets for specific matches. Remaining tickets will later be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

A larger format with 48 teams and 104 matches, the 2026 World Cup will be the biggest in history and will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Tickets are available as venue packages, team-specific packages, or single-game passes.  In an effort to stop scalping, FIFA will also run an approved resale site.

The organization stated that dynamic pricing is intended to optimize both attendance and revenue, supporting FIFA’s 211 member associations. While this approach has been criticized for potentially pricing out some fans, officials emphasize that it reflects market norms in North America. The final of the World Cup will be held in MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, and the competition will run from June 11 to July 19, 2026. This ticketing system represents a major shift in how fans will access the world’s most-watched sporting event.
