South Africa Champions earned their first ever World Championship of Legends (WCL) title by defeating Pakistan Champions by 9 wickets at Edgbaston in Birmingham on August 2, 2025. The story of the match was AB de Villiers unbeaten century as he saw his team home in style.

Pakistan Champions elected to bat and they set a total of 195 for 5 in their 20 overs. The batting was consistent, with opener Sharjeel Khan leading the way with 76. The total could have been higher except that other than Sharjeel, the Pakistan Champions did not have anyone score above 50, and failed to create any useful partnerships along the way. South African bowlers Wayne Parnell and Hardus Viljoen both made useful contributions with the ball taking 2 wickets each and Imran Tahir also contributed with one wicket.

With AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla establishing a quick 72-run partnership in just 5.2 overs, South Africa responded with a brisk start. Although Amla was dismissed for 18 runs by Saeed Ajmal, the Proteas had already seized the momentum. AB de Villiers, showing glimpses of his vintage brilliance, smashed an unbeaten 120 off 60 balls, reaching his century in just 47 deliveries. His innings was laced with 12 fours and 7 sixes and left the Pakistani bowlers with no answers. JP Duminy helped him with an undefeated 50 off 28 balls, and together they claimed victory in just 16.5 overs.

This resounding victory gave South Africa their first WCL trophy, and rounded off a fabulously strong and consistent tournament. Pakistan also was proud of their second place in the previous edition despite strong performances in the tournament. AB de Villiers was named Player of the Final for his match winning century and leadership across the tournament, and South Africa's overall benefit sad his qualities in delivering such an unforgettable historic win.
