After finding out that UK authorities are conducting a criminal investigation into cricketer Haider Ali, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has placed him on temporary suspension. According to reports, the event happened during the Pakistan Shaheens' most recent England tour.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed they arrested a 24-year-old man following a rape report filed on August 4. The man, believed to be Haider Ali, has been released on bail while the investigation continues. The police said the victim is receiving support from their officers.
The PCB said it had given Haider legal assistance to defend his rights and is aware of the ongoing probe. The PCB stated that it "acknowledges the importance of allowing the investigation to run its course and fully respects the legal process in the United Kingdom."
With immediate effect, Haider Ali has been placed under provisional suspension while the legal actions are being handled.The PCB added that it will take appropriate action under its Code of Conduct once all facts are confirmed.
Until the investigation is complete, the PCB said it would not make any further comments.
The 24-year-old Haider made his debut for Pakistan in 2020 and has since participated in two ODIs and 35 T20 Internationals.He was also part of the squads for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cups in 2021 and 2022.
