India’s Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Parneet Kaur have advanced to the compound women’s semifinals at the fourth stage of the Archery World Cup.

Jyothi, who topped the qualification round, defeated Turkey’s Hazal Burun 147-144 in the quarterfinals and will now face Korea’s Han Seungyeon. Parneet reached her first World Cup semifinal with a close 142-141 win over Turkey’s Oznur Cure Girdi.

Despite being the 2023 Asian Champion, Parneet had yet to win an individual medal outside Asia and wasn’t selected for the earlier World Cup stages in Florida, Shanghai, and Antalya. With a qualifying score of 702, she is now within two points of her personal best and might place on her first World Cup podium.

Parneet revealed that practicing calligraphy in between turns and concentrating on three crucial elements in her shooting process have kept her mind sharp. She will now face European Champion Gibson in the semifinals, while Jyothi could potentially meet her in the final or bronze match, depending on results.

In men’s compound, top-seeded Rishabh Yadav, Aman Saini, and Priyansh were knocked out in the second round, while Prathamesh Bhalchandra Fuge exited in the first.

In recurve events, both the Indian men's and women's teams were eliminated early.  The women's squad, which included Ankita Bhakat, Deepika Kumari, and debutant Gatha Khadake, lost 3-5 to France.  Brazil defeated the men's squad (2-6) consisting of Dhiraj Bommadevara, Rahul Singh, and Neeraj Chauhan.
