Spain has made history by reaching the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 final for the first time. They defeated Germany 1-0 in a tense semifinal in Zurich. After neither team scored in regular time, the game went into extra time.

The winning goal came in the 113th minute from Spain’s Aitana Bonmatí. An excellent pass was played by Athenea del Castillo into the path of a striker-one-on-one with the goalkeeper-who then finished the ball past Ann-Katrin Berger. This goal was significant as it marked Spain's first triumph over Germany in a major women's tournament.

Spain had possession and chances but Berger made vital saves to keep Germany in the game especially in the first half. Germany had its share of chances in the second half but couldn't beat the defense or Cata Coll who had a crucial double save late in regular time.

Germany, a team with plenty of greats in its history, and eight Euro titles, put in a strong effort and showed rich character despite injuries and a demanding and short tournament. But it wasn't enough to keep Spain, who forced Germany into uncomfortable areas of the pitch, from reaching the final.

In the Basel final on Sunday, Spain will face the defending champions, England. This is a rematch from the 2023 Women's World Cup final, where Spain also won.

It will definitely be an exciting match for two of the top teams in women's football.
