England has managed to defend their UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 title with a thrilling victory over Spain in a final played at St. Jakob-Park, Basel, Switzerland. The match ended 1-1 at the conclusion of extra time, with England winning 3-1 in the penalty shootout.

Spain took the lead in the 25th minute when Mariona Caldentey headed in a cross from McKenzie Arnold's kick. England initially struggled, but were able to make an important substitution just before half time: Chloe Kelly came on for Lauren James who had picked up a knock. Kelly picked out Alessia Russo in the 57th minute with a great cross that resulted in an equalizer.

Even with Spain having large shares of possession, neither side could find any more goals, and 90 minutes plus extra time ended up at 1-1. The match went to penalties, and England's goalkeeper, Hannah Hampton, made some key saves through the shootout. Kelly was able to slot home the winning penalty, just like she did in the final in 2022.

This victory marks the first time any country has successfully defended their title since Germany did so 12 years ago. England's captain, Leah Williamson, and goalkeeper energy, Hannah Hampton, described the resilience and determination of her teammates throughout the entire tournament.

This victory represents another proud moment for the Lionesses who successfully defended their European Title.
