Finance Minister unveils transformative budget plans for Nepal's economic growth

KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Barshaman Pun has outlined ambitious plans for the forthcoming budget with the goal of transforming Nepal's economic landscape. Speaking at an event in Kathmandu on Thursday, Minister Pun emphasized a departure from punitive measures, instead focusing on strategies aimed at bringing about significant changes in the next fiscal year.

Minister Pun underscored his commitment to revitalizing the economy by fostering confidence in the private sector and implementing progressive policies across various sectors. He reassured stakeholders of the government's dedication to safeguarding private sector investments and property rights, pledging coherence and consistency in policy formulation.

Responding to concerns about potential tax adjustments, Minister Pun affirmed that any changes would undergo meticulous assessment for necessity and rationale. He stressed that tax rates would not be altered under external pressures, emphasizing that fiscal decisions would be grounded in thorough deliberation and justification.

Despite acknowledging the challenges ahead, Minister Pun expressed optimism regarding Nepal's economic outlook, setting a target of seven and a half percent growth for the upcoming fiscal year. While acknowledging that achieving double-digit growth might be challenging, he affirmed the government's unwavering commitment to sustainable economic expansion.
