Two youth arrested for assault after NPL championship game

KATHMANDU: After Saturday's Nepal Premier League (NPL) final, two young people were taken into custody on suspicion of misbehavior and assault. Following the Janakpur Bolts vs. Sudurpashchim Royals game, the incident happened at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.


The people who were arrested were Ashok Saud, age 21, and Ganesh Saud, age 19, both of whom were from Doti and lived in Kirtipur. According to reports, they cheered for the Sudurpashchim Royals, who were defeated by Janakpur in the championship match.


According to reports, the two youths used offensive language, exhibited behavior that disrupted communal harmony and directed disrespectful actions toward others in the aftermath of Janakpur's victory in the inaugural season of the NPL.


Following complaints and more information from many sources, the suspects were taken into custody by authorities on Sunday night around 7:00 p.m. At the Kirtipur Police Station, they were placed under arrest.


The hunt for further people connected to the event is still ongoing, according to a police statement. More suspects connected to the disturbance are being sought and detained by law enforcement.


Authorities have emphasized the significance of upholding order and respect during public events in light of the occurrence, which has brought attention to tensions that exist after games. To hold everyone accountable, investigations are being conducted.
