KATHMANDU: Police have apprehended three women, including two from Uganda and one from India, on charges of smuggling cocaine worth Rs 80 million. The Narcotics Control Bureau of the Nepal Police made the arrests, with the Indian woman identified as the intended recipient of the drugs.
According to SP Rameshwor Karki, spokesperson for the Bureau, the first Ugandan woman, aged 44, arrived in Nepal on May 12 carrying 1.260 kg of cocaine concealed in her stomach. She was apprehended in Sinamangal, Kathmandu, and transported to Nepal Police Hospital in Maharajgunj, where 90 capsules containing cocaine were discovered inside her stomach.
Following this arrest, another Ugandan woman was detained in Thamel on Wednesday, and 1.394 kg of cocaine was seized from her possession. In total, 2.654 kg of cocaine, valued at Rs 79.6 million, was confiscated from the two Ugandan women.
During the course of the investigation, police also arrested an Indian woman in Thamel who was allegedly set to receive the smuggled cocaine. All three women are currently in police custody as further investigations are underway.
