KATHMANDU: Sudurpaschim Province Chief Minister Dirgha Sodari secured a vote of confidence from the state assembly during a Thursday meeting at noon. The endorsement, with 28 MPs supporting Sodari's leadership, was confirmed by Speaker Bhim Bhandari. All 28 parliamentarians voted in favor of the confidence motion, with no opposition or neutrality.
The supporters of Chief Minister Sodari included 10 members from the Maoist Center, 11 from CPN-UML, 4 from Unified Samajwadi Party, 2 from Nagarik Unmukti, and an independent parliamentarian. Prior to the vote, Chief Minister Sodari presented the proposal for confidence, although there were initial protests regarding the constitutionality of his appointment.
Despite dissent from five Nepali Congress and Nagarik Unmukti lawmakers, the assembly proceeded with the confidence motion. Speaker Bhim Bhandari mediated the situation, allowing time for divisions to be made between supporters and dissenters. As a result, members from Nepali Congress, Nagarik Unmukti, and one Rastriya Prajatantra Party opted to boycott the session.
