(Reuters): Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, was accused of sexually abusing his sister, Ann Altman, between 1997 and 2006. She says that beginning when she was three and her brother was twelve, the abuse happened on a regular basis at their Clayton, Missouri, home.
Rape, sexual assault, molestation, sodomy, and battery are among the alleged abuses, according to the lawsuit, which was filed in federal court in St. Louis on Monday. According to Ann, 30, the abuse persisted until she was eleven or twelve years old.
Along with punitive damages, Ann is requesting at least $75,000 in compensatory damages. In support of her allegations, she mentioned injuries like despair, mental agony, extreme emotional suffering, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
In a statement released on Tuesday, 39-year-old Sam Altman refuted the accusations, calling them "completely false." His mother and two brothers co-signed the declaration, which was shared on the social media site X.
The family reported that caring for Ann, who has resisted traditional mental health therapy, had been "incredibly difficult." Despite the legal charges, they said they were still worried about her welfare.
The statement claims that the family will continue to provide Ann, also known as Annie, with monthly financial support for the remainder of her life. According to the family, Ann has persisted in demanding more money in spite of this.
Ann Altman's lawyers have yet to respond to requests for comment on the allegations and the family's statement. The court issue has garnered a lot of attention due to Sam Altman's significant position in the tech sector.
Along with Elon Musk, Sam Altman was a co-founder of OpenAI. He rose to fame in 2022 with the debut of ChatGPT. In addition to receiving numerous awards, the artificial intelligence tool transformed AI technology.
OpenAI, powered by Microsoft, collected $6.6 billion from investors and was valued at $157 billion in October 2024. Altman has become even more influential in the technology sector as a result of the company's success.
Sam Altman has a personal net worth of about $1.1 billion, according to Forbes. His rising notoriety and OpenAI's substantial market value coincide with the lawsuit against him.
