KATHMANDU: Over the past five months, Nepal Police have apprehended 5,846 fugitives from several locations throughout the nation. After being found guilty of a variety of offenses, these individuals were attempting to avoid their sentences. Senior Superintendent of Police Bishwa Adhikari, the spokesperson for the Nepal Police, stated that a special campaign was started this fiscal year to locate and capture these fugitives.
The province with the most arrests, Madhesh, had 1,590 people hauled into custody. In close pursuit, the Kathmandu Valley recorded 1,253 arrests. Other provinces saw the capture of the remaining fugitives, including Koshi (735), Bagmati (265), Gandaki (506), Lumbini (1,035), Karnali (169), and Sudurpaschim (235).
All those arrested have been taken to court to begin serving their sentences. These penalties total 1,968 years, nine months, and eight days, according to police data.
SSP Adhikari emphasized the campaign's significance in capturing criminals and ensuring that the law is enforced. Authorities' commitment to strengthening the rule of law and reducing the number of absconders is demonstrated by the operation.
In addition to the jail term, the detained persons risk fines of Rs 430.54 million. The police remain dedicated to collecting these fines as part of a broader effort to hold convicted offenders accountable for their actions.
