KATHMANDU: A wanted man in connection with the Balkot double murder case, Milan Acharya, turned himself in at the Maharajgunj Police Circle on Tuesday morning. Acharya admitted to the authorities that he had killed his father and younger brother.

Kul Prasad Acharya, 56, and Prabin Acharya, 22, were found dead in different rooms of their leased house in Balkot, Suryabinayak Municipality-2, Bhaktapur, on Monday. To get to the crime site, police had to break into the house.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Dhundiraj Neupane, spokesperson for the Bhaktapur District Police Range, stated that the father’s body was found in one room, while the younger son’s body was located in a makeshift kitchen. Both victims had injuries near their ears.

Blood-stained objects thought to have been used in the murders were found at the location by detectives, including a dumbbell and a conventional stone grinder. Hair traces were also found in the evidence, which might have connected the items to the crime.

In Balkot, the family had been renting a ground-floor apartment in a three-story structure for the previous three years. While Prabin was working toward a Bachelor of Science degree and Milan was getting ready for public service examinations, Kul Prasad Acharya was the acting head of the Khotang District Post Office.

The Acharya family is originally from Khotang district's Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality, and their tragic situation has shocked the local community. The motive behind the deaths and the circumstances surrounding them are still being investigated by the authorities.
