KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda is scheduled to seek a vote of confidence on May 20, marking the fourth time in his current term. This decision arises amid a politically turbulent period, particularly due to the obstruction of the House of Representatives by the Nepali Congress (NC), which has prompted the ruling party to expedite the call for a confidence vote.
The move by Prime Minister Dahal follows a split within the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal (JSP), where Chairman Upendra Yadav withdrew his support from the government. Speaker Devraj Ghimire’s press advisor, Shekhar Adhikari, confirmed that the Prime Minister’s Secretariat has already sent a letter to the Parliament Secretariat, indicating the upcoming vote of confidence.
According to the constitution, a vote of confidence is required within 30 days following the withdrawal of support from a coalition partner.
