At the Fleadh Cheoil festival in Wexford, 1,018 musicians formed the largest céilí band ever assembled, setting a new Guinness World Record.

On Thursday night, the musicians assembled at Chadwick's Wexford Park GAA grounds and performed three classic polkas for more over five minutes: the Wexford Polka, the Gaelscoil Polka, and the Little Diamond.

The previous record of 384 players was set last year at Croke Park in Dublin. This year’s event included musicians of all ages and skill levels, playing 15 different traditional instruments such as harps, banjos, bodhráns, and tin whistles.

Glen Pollard, the adjudicator for Guinness World Records, commended the musicians for their performance, stating that the record-breaking effort was amazing and the music was quite touching.

After setting a record for the largest tin whistle ensemble with 2,516 musicians the previous year, this is the second world record set by the Fleadh Cheoil in Wexford.

The Fleadh Cheoil festival continues until August 10, featuring various cultural and musical events in Wexford.
