India remained unbeaten as they won the ICC T-20 World Cup Cricket 2024 Championship, defeating South Africa by an exciting 7-run margin. With this win, India captured their second Twenty20 World Cup, after the first one in 2007. In response to India's total of 177 runs, South Africa managed only 169 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs. South Africa was denied the win in their first finals appearance.
Heinrich Klaasen led the South African batting with a furious 52 runs off 27 balls, while Quinton de Kock scored 39 runs off 31 balls. Tristan Stubbs scored 31 runs and David Miller 21 more. For India, Jasprit Bumrah led the bowling attack with 2 for 18, and Hardik Pandya took 3 wickets for 20 runs. Arshdeep Singh added two, and Axar Patel one.
Having taken to the field by winning the toss and opting for batting first, India posted 176 runs for 7 wickets in their 20 overs. Virat Kohli did an outstanding performance, where he sowed 76 runs off 59 balls. The early losses, with Rohit Sharma posting a measly 9 runs and Rishabh Pant getting dismissed without a run, were followed by Axar Patel contributing 47 runs. Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya did help at the end in putting a respectable total on board. Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada each got one wicket, while South Africa's Keshav Maharaj and Anrich Nortje claimed two wickets respectively.
