KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has convened a meeting of current and former party officials to formulate a unified stance on the cooperative fraud case. Scheduled to take place at Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba's residence at 1 PM, the meeting aims to establish a clear position on the matter.
NC lawmakers have accused Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane of involvement in the misappropriation of cooperative funds, prompting calls for a parliamentary probe committee. The party insists that any such committee must explicitly include Lamichhane's name in its mandate. Should this condition not be met, NC leaders, along with others, will discuss the possibility of including Gorkha Media Network in the committee's scope.
An earlier meeting between ruling and opposition party leaders at the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar failed to yield a resolution. NC lawmaker Pariyar expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling coalition's proposal, suggesting that it appeared aimed at stalling progress. While the Prime Minister expressed openness, opposition leaders found the ruling coalition's position lacking in persuasiveness.
