KATHMANDU: Forty-six members from Godawari Municipality-2 in Kailali, the hometown of CPN-UML Secretary Lekhraj Bhatta, have collectively resigned from the party. They submitted their resignation letters on December 26 to the municipal committee president of UML, including their signatures and membership numbers.

The individuals who resigned had originally joined UML after leaving the Maoist Centre. In their resignation letter, which was later made public by the office of Maoist Centre Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda,' they expressed feelings of humiliation and being sidelined within the party, as they were often treated as former Maoists and disrespected.

Along with expressing their dissatisfaction with the UML's internal conflicts and factional politics, these members specifically criticized General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel's leadership. They spoke about their incapacity to function well in this setting.

In their letter, the departing members also expressed disapproval of the UML's current approach, which seems to prioritize recruiting members from other parties. They noted that this strategy has been criticized within the organization, particularly because of the attacks on the people's war by some of the senior officials.

The resignation group's dissatisfaction with their treatment within the party and the persistent leadership problems that have hindered their ability to carry out their political activity within the organization are the main reasons for their decision to leave UML.
