KATHMANDU: The District Attorney’s Office in Rupandehi plans to file a supplementary case in the District Court, Butwal, related to the Supreme Cooperative Fraud case. This high-profile case involves allegations of cooperative fraud and organized crime, with several prominent figures implicated.
Former Home Minister and Rastriya Swatantra Party Chair Rabi Lamichhane and former DIG Chhabilal Joshi, the vice chair of Gorkha Media Network, are among the accused. The accused parties are the target of legal action and reparations from the authorities.
The case was originally supposed to be filed last Friday, but it was delayed because of the Supreme Court's original documents. Now that the required paperwork has been obtained, the lawsuit can move forward.
A police investigation that found 14 more people implicated in the fraud is the basis for the supplemental case. On the basis of the police's recommendations, the Government Attorney's Office will now formally prosecute charges.
The initial lawsuit, filed on April 15, 2024, accused 28 individuals of fraud, including managers Sagar KC and Kumar Ramtel, Supreme Cooperative Chair Om Prakash Gurung, and leaders like GB Rai. The supplemental case broadens the scope of the probe.
The Butwal Area Police Office stated that there are now 42 accused in total after the addition of the new suspects. These charges followed in-depth analyses of the cooperative's activities.
With authorities seeking justice and accountability for all those involved, this supplemental filing is a major step in addressing the widespread fraudulent actions connected to the Supreme Cooperative.
