KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) encouraged banks and other financial institutions to let consumers open accounts using their National Identification Cards in a public notice. This move is in line with a previous central bank directive that sought to simplify the process by using a single rule.
The National Identity Card and Registration Department has taken action to guarantee wider access to national identity cards in order to support this program. District Administration Offices around the nation are issuing these cards.
To assist locals in obtaining their national identity cards, makeshift camps are being erected close to the district administration offices in the Kathmandu Valley. The goal of this endeavor is to increase public accessibility to the process.
Additionally, the Department has launched an online portal where individuals can check the status of their application and confirm their national identity card number. Making it easier for users to keep an eye on the status of their applications is the aim of this digital platform.
The NRB’s notice emphasized that banks and financial institutions are required to assist customers in opening bank accounts by verifying the information on national identity cards through the Department’s online portal.
The central bank’s directive aims to streamline the process of account opening and ensure that individuals can easily access banking services with their national identity cards, enhancing convenience and efficiency.
