KATHMANDU: A recent agreement between China and India to designate Lipulekh, a disputed location claimed by Nepal, as a pilgrimage center has drawn intense resistance from the All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), a student organization connected to the CPN-UML. The absence of Nepal's participation in this accord has caused the union to express concerns.

Aarti Lama, the chair of ANNFSU, denounced the agreement in a statement issued today, calling it "extremely shameful" that China and India reached such a pact in Beijing without contacting or alerting Nepal. This is viewed by the union as a disrespect for Nepal's sovereignty and interests.

Lama also criticized the Nepali government for its lack of response to the issue, pointing out that even though it has received a lot of media attention, the government has done nothing about it. One area of discontent for the student organization has been the absence of a response from Nepal's authorities.

The surrounding countries' disregard for Nepal's territorial rights and what it called "border terror" were denounced by the ANNFSU. The union demanded that China and India stop taking any acts that compromise Nepal's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The Nepali government was encouraged by the student union to adopt a more forceful and resolute position on the issue. It emphasized the necessity of taking action to safeguard the country's boundaries and demanded a public explanation of the government's stance on the encroachments.

The ANNFSU stressed the need for swift action to protect Nepal's territorial integrity, stating that the matter needs to be handled forcefully to stop the nation's sovereignty from being further undermined.
