KATHMANDU: There are 127 industries, including international corporations, spread across multiple sectors in Nepal's Hetauda Industrial Corridor. These sectors have made major contributions to the creation of jobs and economic growth in the area.
The corridor's primary functioning industries include the Nepal Biscuit Company, Nepal Soap Industry, United Brewery Pvt Ltd, Food Industries Pvt Ltd, and Animal Feed Production Processing Industry. Additionally, companies like Nepal Pole Production Pvt Ltd and Nepal Bottlers Udyog Pvt Ltd are noteworthy contributors to the industrial environment.
The Hetauda Milk Distribution Project, the Nepal Tea Leaf Industry, the Nepal Edible Oil Production Industry, and the Gorkha Lahari Cigarette Industry are further important participants. These sectors demonstrate the wide variety of enterprises thriving in the corridor, as do Nepal Wine Production Industries Pvt Ltd and others.
However, due to financial issues and raw material shortages, numerous older industries that were founded twenty years ago have shut down. Among these are Nepal Vanaspati Ghee, Nepal Livestock Pvt Ltd, Nepal Leather Industry Pvt Ltd, and Nepal Synthetic Textile Industry.
The government-owned Hetauda Textile Industry, which has not been in operation since 2058 BS, is one of the noteworthy closures. This illustrates the difficulties certain legacy sectors have adjusting to shifting market dynamics.
Ramesh Kumar Nepal, a senior official in the industrial sector, said that twelve new enterprises, including multinational businesses, are now being constructed along the corridor. Indicating a rise in the area's industrial capability, building is already underway with plans to begin production within the next two years.
The corridor is currently a significant economic hub, directly and indirectly employing over 15,000 people. These opportunities, which span a wide range of skill levels, benefit the neighborhood and beyond.
The US government provided financial and technical assistance for the establishment of the industrial corridor 61 years ago, in 2020 BS. The foundation for the Hetauda Industrial Corridor Management's long-standing assistance to Nepal's industrial sector was laid when the government granted it 3,228 ropanis of land at its inception.
