KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has requested that a copy of the investigation file concerning irregularities in the rental of land belonging to the Nepal Children's Organization (NCO) be provided within seven days.Â
The NHRC has directed both the High Government Attorney's Office in Patan and the District Government Attorney's Office (DGAO) in Kathmandu to share a copy of the decision, while also requesting the Central Investigation Bureau in Maharajgunj to supply the investigation file.
Dr. Tikaram Pokharel, a spokesman for the NHRC, affirmed that the Commission had initiated an investigation into the incident using its discretionary authority. He underlined that the Commission's attempt to address the matter thoroughly included the request for the investigative file.
The DGAO's decision to drop charges against Rita Singh Vaidya, the former president of the NCO, in spite of being involved in the irregularities, set off the NHRC's probe. The safeguarding of power and authority, according to the NHRC, had an impact on this judgment and prompted the Commission to step in.
Pokharel said that the case is very much in a study by NHRC because there are apprehensions that no action has ever been taken against any responsible individual in this regard. The Commission ensures accountability in this case.
The NHRC, itself, makes loud the Commission's stand for justice and also transparency in matters involving corruption and power abuse in managing public resources, as well as incessant public outcry about them.
