Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced plans to build a 50,000-seat stadium in Suryabinayak, Bhaktapur, citing the inadequate size of Dasharath Stadium.

At the opening of the 'National High Performance Centre and Sports Science Research Centre' in Satdobato, Oli urged the National Sports Council (NSC) to press on with strong coordination in preparing for the National Premier League (NPL).

Amid uncertainties over the NPL’s second edition, he stressed that sports should remain free from political influence and recognized its growing potential as a business and income-generating sector in Nepal.

Referring to his recent visit to Real Madrid’s stadium in Spain, Oli stressed the importance of a larger venue in Nepal and vowed to develop a world-class stadium in Bhaktapur.

He also directed the NSC to adhere to the schedule for the 10th National Sports Tournament, saying that further delays would result in national disgrace.  The competition is set for November 17 to 23 in Birendranagar, Surkhet.
