KATHMANDU: The National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center stated that at 2:51 am on Friday, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 occurred close to Bhairabkunda in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-2 in Sindhupalchowk. Parts of eastern and southern Nepal, as well as Kathmandu and the surrounding districts, felt the tremor.

The earthquake did not cause significant casualties, but it did cause modest damage, according to Chief District Officer Kiran Thapa. Since Tusare, Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-3, is a deserted location, no material or human losses were reported despite a dry landslide that happened there. A zinc-roofed, one-story police barracks in Kodari also sustained minor damage.

The Armed Police Force, Nepal Army, and Nepal Police have dispatched security officers to monitor the situation. Authorities in the affected areas have cautioned residents to remain cautious, particularly due to the potential for rock collapses caused by aftershocks and dry landslides.

One individual, 33-year-old prisoner Syangbo Tamang, sustained injuries while attempting to flee in panic during the quake. He received basic treatment at Chautara Hospital and has since been discharged.

The National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center's senior seismologist, Dr. Lokvijay Adhikari, said the tremors were felt all over Nepal. Although there hasn't been any major structural damage recorded yet, officials are currently assessing the impact in outlying areas.

While officials remain on high alert, residents are encouraged to take the necessary precautions. Additional information will be added as it becomes available.
