KATHMANDU: Gopal Bahadur Mahat, the principal of Prolific Higher Secondary School in Dhumbarahi, Kathmandu, has been arrested on suspicion of facilitating a fake candidate to take the Grade XII examination. SP Nabaraj Adhikari from the District Police Range, Kathmandu, confirmed the arrest and stated that Mahat is believed to have been involved in this fraudulent activity.

Initial investigations have revealed evidence suggesting the involvement of one student as a fake examinee. The Ministry of Education has received a complaint claiming that Prolific Higher Secondary School has at least four fraudulent examinees.

On April 25, the Ministry of Education forwarded a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs, urging an investigation based on the symbol numbers of four individuals. According to sources within the Ministry of Education, Principal Mahat is implicated in a complaint filed with a registration firm, which alleges that one person's details were used while another person's photograph was placed on the admit card.

Among the individuals implicated, two are reportedly relatives of Mahat. Currently, Mahat is in police custody at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgunj, while further inquiries are being conducted to ascertain the involvement of other individuals. The Grade XII examination, which began on April 27, is scheduled to continue until May 9.
