KATHMANDU: Bhim Bahadur Kumal, a para swimmer from Nepal, has been picked to compete in the Paris 2024 Paralympics. This famous event, taking place in Paris, France from August 28 to September 8, will feature nearly 4,000 competitors from all over the world competing in 549 medal categories.
Following his selection through bipartite invites, Bhim's participation in the Paralympics was confirmed by Saroj Shrestha, Chairperson of the National Para-Swimming Association Nepal. Bhim, who holds Nepal’s national record with a time of 35.01 seconds in the freestyle category, will represent his country in this event at the upcoming Paris Games.
Originally from Nareshwor Benikhola in Gorkha district, the 41-year-old athlete has previously competed in four major international competitions, including the 2019 World Para Swimming Championships held in London. Currently training at Kalopul’s West Venue, Bhim has expressed his excitement and dedication to preparing for the Paris Paralympics, emphasizing his rigorous training regimen.
In addition to Bhim Bahadur Kumal, Nepal will also be represented by two other athletes in taekwondo: Palesha Govardan and Bharat Singh Mahata, highlighting Nepal’s diverse participation and representation across multiple sports at the Paralympic level.
