KATHMANDU: Phanindra Devkota, a Nepal Samajbadi Party lawmaker, will be named as Gandaki Province's Minister of Energy, Water Resources, and Drinking Water today. This appointment comes after Devkota returned to the Gandaki Provincial Assembly on Friday, after a Supreme Court decision that overturned the measures against him.
Sources indicate that Chief Minister Surendra Pandey will officially appoint Devkota to his new ministerial position. Devkota had previously challenged the CPN (Maoist Center)'s decision to take action against him by filing a writ petition in the Supreme Court, arguing that their decision was unconstitutional.
Despite directives from the Maoist parliamentary party, Devkota had voted in support of CM Pandey of the Nepali Congress (NC), leading the Maoist Center to take action against him and relieve him of his MP status.
