KATHMANDU: The Central Working Committee (CWC) of the Nepali Congress (NC) unanimously approved a proposal by General Secretary Gagan Thapa to contest future elections independently, without forming alliances. This decision was made during the final day of the CWC meeting held on Sunday, which had been adjourned multiple times due to disagreements, particularly from NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and his allies.

The approved proposal emphasizes the party's focus on revitalizing its organization, increasing public support, and regaining trust to secure a majority on its own in future elections. Although the proposal originally called for contesting elections without alliances, it was slightly modified in wording to state that the NC will contest elections "on its own strength."

Thapa had initially introduced this proposal during the Mahasamiti meeting in February in Godawari, Lalitpur, where it was endorsed and later brought to the CWC for final approval. The debate within the NC over this proposal had been intense, but with its approval, the internal conflict has been temporarily resolved.
