KATHMANDU: Ramesh Lekhak, the chief whip of the Nepali Congress, has clarified the terms of the CPN (UML) and Nepali Congress agreement, stressing its purpose of guaranteeing political stability in the country. Lekhak stated that the two parties' agreement is centered on advancing good governance and expediting the nation's development objectives during today's House of Representatives meeting on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's vote of confidence proposal.

Lekhak highlighted that the Nepali Congress supported the agreement signed on July 1, confirming their decision to vote against Prime Minister Dahal's confidence motion. He criticized the frequent seeking of confidence votes, citing it as a sign of instability and advocated for constitutional amendments to address any deficiencies observed during its implementation.

Further underscoring the Nepali Congress's role in bringing the Maoists into the peace process and establishing federal democratic governance, Lekhak emphasized the party's commitment to strengthening federalism, democracy, and inclusivity. He stressed the importance of timely constitutional amendments, especially those provisions open to review every ten years, to enhance its durability and relevance.

Lekhak reaffirmed that the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) are committed to leadership based on their agreement, intending to engage with all parties in discussions on this matter. He concluded by asserting that the Nepali Congress's historical mission has been to uphold and consolidate democracy, urging against misinformation regarding their intentions and highlighting the success of past collaborations between major political forces in Nepal.
