KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel is going to appoint CPN-UML chairman KP Sharma Oli as the next prime minister. Kiran Pokharel, the President's Press Advisor, said that this appointment comes beyond today's deadline for creating a new administration.
Oli has requested that the oath-taking ceremony be held on Monday at 11 AM. The ceremony was rescheduled from Sunday due to time constraints, said Press Advisor Pokharel. The expansion of the cabinet is also anticipated to occur on the same day.
On Friday, President Paudel invoked Article 76 (2) of the Constitution, requesting that parties make their claims for government leadership by 5:00 p.m. On Friday, UML Chairman Oli filed his claim for Prime Minister with the support of the Nepali Congress (NC).
The UML chosen to break with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and form an alliance with the strongest opposition party in the federal parliament, costing Dahal the support of the majority of parliamentarians.
