Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal recommended as Nepal's next ambassador to Belgium

KATHMANDU: Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal has been recommended as Nepal's next ambassador to Belgium, succeeding Gahendra Raj Bhandari, whose tenure is ending. Lamsal, who became Foreign Secretary on December 14, 2023, will serve in this new role for the remainder of her term, which has 13 months left. She is notably Nepal's first female Foreign Secretary.


In a related move, the government plans to promote Amrit Rai, currently the senior-most joint secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to the position of Foreign Secretary. This promotion is part of the ongoing administrative adjustments within Nepal's foreign service.
