An 18-kilometer cross-border energy transmission line contract for USD 12.36 million has been signed, marking an important milestone for the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Nepal Compact. Connecting the 400 kV New Butwal Substation in Nawalparasi Bardhaghat Susta West to the border between India and Nepal, this line is a component of the larger Electricity Transmission Project. The project, which has a 21-month completion deadline, has been awarded to Transrail Lighting Ltd.

MCA-Nepal is pleased to have achieved this throughout the year of the Compact's Entry-Into-Force. As Chair of the MCA-Nepal Board and Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Ram Prasad Ghimire says the line is essential to advancing Nepal's energy goals and fostering regional energy trade. National Electricity Authority (NEA) Managing Director Kul Man Ghising said the program is essential to building Nepal's energy infrastructure and promoting cross-border collaboration.

The successful contracting of this segment, according to Diane L. Francisco, MCC Resident Country Director, is a significant milestone that opens the door for the overall 297 km transmission line project. The Executive Director of MCA-Nepal, Khadga Bahadur Bisht, commented on the advancements and the dedication of all parties involved in accomplishing the project's objectives.

MCA-Nepal plans to launch the bid for the remaining 297 km of the transmission line by the end of the year, continuing the momentum of the MCC Nepal Compact and reaffirming the collaborative efforts to meet the project's objectives.
