North Korean leader Kim Jong Un vowed triumph in the nation's continuing "anti-imperialist, anti-US" campaign while commemorating the 71st anniversary of the Korean War armistice.

During visits to the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum and the Friendship Tower in Pyongyang, he paid tribute to fallen soldiers from both North Korea and China.

He laid a wreath at the Friendship Tower, which commemorates Chinese troops who fought in the Korean War, and praised their sacrifices. However, he did not make any direct remarks against South Korea or the United States during the ceremony.

North Korea continues to mark July 27 as "Victory Day," although the 1953 armistice ended the war in a draw, restoring the pre-war border between the North and South.

Kim also visited a North Korean military unit and took part in celebratory events in the capital. He used the occasion to reaffirm his country’s goal of becoming a powerful, self-reliant nation with a strong army.

Meanwhile, Kim met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Wonsan, where they discussed the growing military and diplomatic partnership between North Korea and Russia. Kim assured Russia of North Korea’s “unconditional support” in the Ukraine conflict and reaffirmed the two countries’ commitment under their mutual defense treaty signed last year.

Russia has thanked North Korea for supplying troops and ammunition. Reports suggest that Pyongyang has already sent over 10,000 troops and millions of artillery rounds to support Russia’s war in Ukraine. North Korea has additionally committed to dispatching thousands of military engineers and construction personnel to assist in rebuilding war-affected regions of Russia.

As ties with Russia grow stronger, analysts point out a clear decline in focus on North Korea's long-standing alliance with China, suggesting a possible shift in its diplomatic strategy.

Despite international sanctions and growing isolation, North Korea continues to boost its alliances and military posture, using historic occasions like Victory Day to showcase its strength and commitment to sovereignty.
