Police have taken Laxman Paswan into custody after he was found with severe burn injuries following an apparent suicide attempt. He is the main suspect in the murder of 26-year-old Rubi Kumari Sah.
Paswan was discovered near his home in Madhav Narayan Municipality-6 early Wednesday morning. Authorities say he set himself on fire and was immediately taken to Better Nepal Multispeciality Hospital in Garuda for emergency treatment. He remains under police control while receiving medical care.
Rubi Sah's body was found in a bag on the side of the road close to Gaur last Saturday night. She had gone out to a salon and never returned. Locals noticed the suitcase near Mudwal Gate and alerted police, who opened it the next morning and found her body.
Investigators then connected Paswan to the homicide when they discovered Sah's slippers in his rented room. After the murder, Paswan reportedly turned off his phone and went into hiding.
Paswan confessed to the murder in a Facebook video before committing suicide. In the video, he claimed he and Sah had been in a relationship since school and had married in court. He said he was overwhelmed by family issues and poverty, and didn’t want to go to jail.
Police believe Sah was killed in a house in Gaur, and her body was transported in a rickshaw before being left on the roadside. The investigation is ongoing.
