KATHMANDU: Chitwan National Park (CNP) has made its largest single-year arrest of poachers, detaining 34 individuals linked to the illegal hunting of one-horned rhinos. This significant operation surpasses last year's six arrests for pangolin skin poaching. Among those arrested are the perpetrators responsible for killing two rhinos using traps, who were apprehended within nine days.
Chief Conservation Officer Dil Bahadur Purja Pun highlighted the success of these operations, noting the significant progress in conservation efforts. The CNP also detained six people for pangolin skin poaching. In recognition of their achievements, the Basantraj Mishra Foundation awarded CNP officials, including Pun, Divesh Shrestha, and Prem Sharma, with a cash prize of Rs 300,000 for their contributions to conservation.
