Chitwan ASI suspended for kicking young man in viral video

KATHMANDU: A video of Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Buddhi Bahadur Gharti Bhujel kicking a young man in Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Chitwan, went viral and led to his suspension. Authorities acted quickly after the incident that happened on the evening of December 30, 2024, drew a lot of criticism on social media.


The film, which went viral on Facebook, showed Bhujel repeatedly kicking a man who was lying on the road near an electric pole while checking a motorcycle. Bhujel accused the man of "making a phone call" and "showing his power" before engaging in the assault.


A committee headed by DSP Gyan Kumar Mahato was established by the Chitwan Police to investigate the incident in response to the public outcry. People all around the nation condemned the video, which put pressure on the police to act swiftly.


Bhujel was put on leave during the course of the investigation, according to SP Gautam Mishra, the Chief of the District Police Office. He emphasized that the issue is being handled seriously by the authorities and pledged to take necessary punishment against those found guilty.


SP Mishra stated, "Action will be taken regarding those responsible in strict compliance with the rules," highlighting the significance of accountability in upholding public confidence.


Even as public indignation continues to demand revenge for the behavior caught in the widely shared video, the suspension and ongoing investigation demonstrate the police's efforts to confront malfeasance and bring about justice.
