KATHMANDU: Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, the foreign minister, has stated that attempts are being made to free Nepali student Bipin Joshi, who is being held captive by Hamas. She gave this update before a parliament meeting of the International Relations Committee.

According to Dr. Rana, she intends to contact Qatar once more to ask for their help in arranging Bipin's release. She said she had talked to the ambassador of Qatar and asked him to set up a meeting with the foreign minister of Qatar.

Dr. Rana expressed hope about the situation, saying she believes Bipin is secure and would be released eventually. "I hope Bipin is safe," she continued. She reaffirmed her commitment to his safe return by saying, "I think he will be released."

On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched an attack on Israel, killing about 1,200 people, including ten Nepali students. About 250 people were taken hostage in the same raid, including Bipin.

Dr. Rana's remarks demonstrate Nepal's diplomatic attempts to resolve the hostage situation and her faith in international collaboration to bring about a settlement.
