KATHMANDU: Four individuals were apprehended at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) for possession of gold. The detainees include Saroj Koirala, aged 31, from Kerabari Rural Municipality-9, Morang; Mohammad Inteyaz Alam, aged 24, from Kataharia Municipality-6, Rautahat; Mohammad Arman, aged 21, from Surunga Municipality-5, Saptari; and Ziaudin Miya, aged 37, from Khadak Municipality-6, Saptari. They were taken into custody by the police in two separate incidents.
Koirala and Alam were apprehended with around 25 grams of gold and nearly 69.99 grams of raw gold, which they had smuggled by bypassing customs procedures. Koirala, arriving in Nepal on a Qatar Air flight, was caught in the airport parking area while allegedly transferring the contraband to Alam, as per police statements.
Likewise, Arman and Miya were found in possession of a 50-gram gold chain.
