KATHMANDU: The value of exports through the Birgunj customs checkpoint in Parsa has nearly doubled to Rs 40.34 billion in the first seven months of the current fiscal year from Rs 17.79 billion in the same time last fiscal year. This noteworthy rise indicates that Nepal's export industry is on the rise.
According to the Birgunj Customs Office, this checkpoint is the busiest of Nepal's 28 customs checkpoints, accounting for 31.72% of the nation's total exports. The office's information officer, Amit Tiwari, pointed out that the rise in shipments of processed soybean and sunflower oil was a major contributor to the export boom.
The processed soybean oil with a total value of Rs 19.36 billion was the topmost export-good from the checkpoint. Processed sunflower oil was second with Rs 4.63 billion in exports. Both these goods contributed a lot to the above increment at the Birgunj checkpost.Â
In addition to oils, fruit juice (Rs 3.96 billion) and iron and iron products (Rs 3.12 billion) were other important exports. Synthetic yarn imports also did well at Rs 1.60 billion, along with Rs 1.47 billion in fabric exports.
At Rs 1.22 billion, this also made a considerable amount of raw material exports for animal feed like rice bran and chaff. This range of products indicates the multiproduct clients of the Birgunj checkpoint.
