A passenger bus traveling from Gorkha to Narayangadh met with a serious accident on Sunday afternoon, plunging into the Marshyangdi River at Aina Paharo, along the Muglin-Pokhara road section in Tanahun district.

The bus, with registration number Ba 2 Kha 1077, veered off the road and fell around 15 meters down into the river near Aanbukhaireni Rural Municipality Ward No. 2.

Rescue operations began immediately after locals alerted authorities. Manakamana Battalion in Tanahun and the Armed Police Force's Disaster Management Training Center in Kurintar sent teams to the location.

According to Tanahun Chief District Officer Ram Krishna Adhikari, two people were rescued early in the operation. Later, police confirmed that five people had been rescued in total, two of whom are in serious condition. One of the seriously injured was referred to Chitwan Medical College, while another is being treated at Ambukhaireni Hospital.

Police Inspector Tek Prasad Subedi said the front portion of the bus is buried in the ground, and rescue teams are using a crane to lift the vehicle. It is still unknown how many passengers were on board at the time of the accident.

Rescue efforts have been difficult because of the strong currents of the Marshyangdi River, but teams continue to search for any more passengers and find out exactly how badly the passengers have been hurt.

More updates are expected as the rescue operation continues.
