KATHMANDU: A jeep accident in Badigad, Baglung, claimed the lives of two people and left five others injured. The incident took place on Tuesday evening when the vehicle, bearing the registration number Lu 3 Cha 5569, was traveling from Bhimgithe in Badigad Rural Municipality-7 to Darling in Badigad-10. Ascending a hilly route, the jeep lost control and overturned, according to local authorities.
Khadka Bahadur Kuwar, 75, of Cholang in Nisikhola Rural Municipality-7, and Juna Kandel, 35, of Dhorpatan Municipality-5, were among the dead. The vehicle drifted off the road and then overturned, resulting in terrible deaths, according to Chief Superintendent of Police Bijay Yadav.
Five people were also injured in the crash. Among them are Tejakumari Budha, age 63; Nimsara Budha, age 50; Thamkumari Poudel, age 52; and Sita Poudel, age 30. The fifth person hurt has not yet been identified by authorities.
Four of the injured merely suffered minor injuries, but Tejakumari Budha is reportedly in critical condition. They are currently receiving medical attention at Burtibang Hospital. Doctors are continuously monitoring Budha's condition while the others should recover.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, but difficult and steep terrain may have played a role. Local authorities are still gathering information to determine if the crash was caused by a technical glitch or a driver error.
