KATHAMNDU: Today, the Bagmati province is set to implement the Provincial Official Language Act 2080, which designates Tamang and Nepal Bhasa (Newari) languages as official languages. This significant decision, made by the Bagmati Provincial Government, marks a milestone in linguistic diversity and inclusivity within the region. Today has been designated as a public holiday across the province by the Bagmati Province Government to celebrate this occasion.
In line with the provisions of the Provincial Official Language Act 2080, Tamang and Nepal Bhasa (Newari) languages will now hold official status alongside Nepali. This decision reflects the province's commitment to honoring and preserving its linguistic heritage.
Following the declaration of today as Language Day, the Bagmati Province government will commence the formal implementation of Tamang and Nepal Bhasa (Newari) languages across government functions. This initiative signifies a proactive step towards promoting multilingualism and ensuring equitable access to public services for all residents of the province.
As part of the implementation process, Tamang and Nepal Bhasa (Newari) languages will be incorporated into official signage across all ministries of the province, alongside the Nepali language. This inclusive approach aims to foster a sense of belonging and representation among diverse linguistic communities within Bagmati province.
