Passenger bus accident in Jhapa leaves 11 injured

KATHMANDU: A bus accident in Dharampur, Shivasatakshi Municipality-1, Jhapa, left 11 people injured early Wednesday morning. The vehicle, a passenger bus (Me 1 Kha 2545) traveling from Kakarbhitta to Dharan, overturned and veered off the road at around 6:30 am, according to local police reports.


The bus lost control and flipped while traveling, causing the catastrophe. Although no fatalities were reported, passengers on board the civil transport van were injured in the accident. The cause of the catastrophe is being investigated by authorities.


The injured were identified by the Jhapa District Police Office as Mary Niraula (17), Deepa Niraula (34), Nirmala Niraula (38), and Guna Koirala (54), all of whom lived in Biratnagar-3. Residents of Shivasatakshi-8, Jhapa, Tanka Siwakoti (32), Ansa Fiyaden (30), and Sumana Limbu (21), are among the other injured.


The incident also injured Shantiram Khatiwada (40) of Kamal Rural Municipality-6, Pushpa Lal Adhikari (51), and Chandrakala Adhikari (49), from Birtamod Municipality-6. As part of continuing efforts to assist people impacted, the authorities shared their information.


According to reports, the status of every injured passenger is stable. They are presently being treated at Jhapa's B & C Hospital and Research Center Pvt. Ltd., where doctors are keeping a careful eye on their recuperation.


The driver, Tika Meche, 54, of Dhulabari, Mechinagar-10, has been taken into custody, according to Arjun Prasad Sodari, information officer for the district traffic police office. He is being held at the Jhiljhile Area Police Station until further investigation into the incident.


Transport companies are being urged by authorities to put safety first and follow the rules in order to stop such incidents from happening again. In order to discover who is responsible and prevent a repeat, the police are still looking into what caused the bus to flip.
