KATHMANDU: The explosion at Dadagaun of Phalelung Rural Municipality-5 in Panchthar district claimed the lives of two children who were critically injured. When the kids were playing on Thursday afternoon, an improvised explosive device (IED) went off. Later that night, two and a half-year-old Princa and eleven-year-old Dipsan passed away from their wounds.

Princa died at 10 pm on Thursday while being transported to a hospital in Jhapa, and Dipsan was pronounced dead at 1 am at B & C Hospital Jhapa. The third injured child, nine-year-old Pawan, is receiving treatment at Panchthar Hospital and is reportedly in stable condition.

Hemanta Bhandari, the deputy superintendent of police, said that an IED triggered the explosion. Residents believe that the device may have been abandoned after the Maoist insurgency ended in 2006. In order to find out where the explosive device came from, the authorities are still looking into the incident.
